This course introduces the students to the fundamentals of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) as well the Structured Query Language (SQL).

 

The course has been divided into 3 sections - RDBMS Fundamentals, SQL (Part-I) & SQL (Part-II). 

 

RDBMS Fundamentals discusses the types of database management systems; the advantages of RDBMS over the other systems; the building blocks of an RDBMS - the database objects, database design process as well as an example of how a database is designed. The students are expected to work on a project on designing a relational data-model at the end of this section.

 

SQL (Part-I) introduces the students to the basics of writing a query using SQL, the de-facto language for manipulating data in an RDBMS. 

 

SQL (Part-II) discusses the more advanced concepts of SQL used for writing complex queries as well as managing the database objects. 

 

There are project work to be completed by the students at the end of SQL (Part-I) & SQL (Part-II) to ensure that the students have developed an understanding of SQL and are comfortable working with SQL in the industry.

 

The course has been designed to ensure the students gain a good understanding of the RDBMS & SQL fundamentals are also equipped to work in this technology after completion of the course.
